Cozy At-Home Fall Bucket List Ideas

You don’t always need to leave the house to feel the magic of fall. Some of the most precious memories happen right at home! Here are some easy fall-themed activities you can do at home, even with a little one.

1. Enjoy a Fall Drink During Nap Time

Take a few minutes to savor a warm seasonal drink, like a pumpkin spice latte, chai tea, or apple cider. And just because you’re nursing doesn’t mean you have to pass on the drinks. You can opt for decaf or breastfeeding-friendly versions, if needed. Something as simple as sipping something seasonal can help you pause, recharge and feel like you aren’t missing out on celebrating autumn.

2. Bake Something Seasonal

Pumpkin bread, apple pie, or squash pancakes are easy to make and fill your home with delicious fall aromas. Bonus: some recipes can be made baby-friendly, so you can sneak in taste-testing together!

One of my favorite things to make during fall is pumpkin bread, specifically the Simple Mills pumpkin bread. It always comes out delicious, is gluten-free, and made with a short list of simple ingredients. I can’t wait until Oliver is old enough to help me bake and eat it!

3. Create a Fall Playlist

An easy way to get into the fall spirit is to set the mood with soft background music. Play it during feeding, rocking, or nap times. Seasonal songs or instrumental tunes can make ordinary moments feel magical.

I personally love having Lo-fi music on for background noise. There are new seasonal playlists that I see every year and I always looks forward to them to set the mood!

4. Light a Fall Candle, Diffuser, or Make a Simmer Pot

A small seasonal scent, like pumpkin, cinnamon, or vanilla, can instantly cozy up your home. I LOVE the smell of cinnamon and like to throw together a simmer pot on the stove. I add cinnamon sticks, apple slices, orange slices, a few cloves, and some nutmeg into water in a big pot and let it simmer. Just wait for the most delicious fall smell to fill your home! This method can double as a humidifier too during the dry months. Keep an eye on the water level throughout the day and add more water as needed.

If candles are more your thing, I’ve heard wonderful things about these non-toxic beeswax and coconut wax candles. I have my eyes on the sweet fireside candle this season, but they have many seasonal scents like pumpkin spice latte and pumpkin bourbon!

5. Watch a Fall Movie While Baby Naps on You

Whether it’s a classic like Hocus Pocus or a family-friendly Hallmark movie, snuggling up with a blanket and enjoying some downtime is a small but meaningful act of self-care.

Take it one step further and get yourself a new comfy big sweater or cozy blanket for when the days start turning chilly. You deserve it, mama!

Outdoor Fall Bucket List Ideas

Fresh air and gentle movement are great for both you and your baby! Outdoor fall activities can help you feel connected to the season and break up the routine of staying indoors.

1. Stroller Walks Under the Leaves

Bundle up your baby, grab the stroller, and take a slow walk through your neighborhood or local park. Watching the leaves change and feeling the crisp air is super refreshing. Your baby will also have new things to look at with the fall colors and falling leaves.

2. Pumpkin Patch Trip

Even if your baby is too little to walk, a visit to a pumpkin patch is a great opportunity for photos, seasonal sensory experiences, and simply enjoying the fall scenery! Take a family outing and let your baby feel pumpkins and other squash, maybe even some corn or hay bales. You’re sure to get lots of cute photos to cherish. Bonus points if you get a family photo!

3. Apple Picking

Apple orchards are baby-wearing friendly and perfect for a day trip. You also might be able to get a mini date in drinking cider and eating apple pie if your orchard has those available. Plus, you’ll have fresh apples to take home for healthy snacks and homemade treats. (Caramel apples, anyone?)

4. Visit a Farmer’s Market or Octoberfest

Fall is peak harvest season! Bring your baby along in a carrier or stroller and enjoy seasonal produce, local treats, and the sights and smells of autumn. Depending on the size of the event, try and go during the less crowded times to lessen the stimulation for baby.

5. Take a Fall Family Photo

Capture your baby’s first fall with a simple photoshoot. Coordinating cozy outfits and a few props (like tiny pumpkins and gourds) creates memories you’ll treasure! You can take these at a local pumpkin patch or even set up a photoshoot at home. It’ll be so great to compare photos and watch your baby grow over the years.

Fall Traditions + Making Memories

Starting traditions in your baby’s first year makes for great memories and and can give a sense of rhythm to the season. Here are some great yearly seasonal tradition ideas:

1. Baby Crafts

You can create a keepsake in many different ways, like by using your baby’s handprint to decorate a pumpkin or make a ghost! Or use paint on your baby’s bum to create a cute pumpkin. It’s simple, fun, and will be a treasured memento for years to come.

2. Family Pajama Night

Pick a cozy evening to snuggle up in PJs, watch a short movie or read a fall-themed book, and enjoy quiet time together. This would be a great opportunity to break out some matching family pajamas and take some pictures!

3. Read a Seasonal Baby Book

Introduce your baby to fall-themed books. Board books about pumpkins, leaves, or autumn animals are perfect for engaging little minds and creating reading routines. We love the Little Blue Truck series in our home. There’s the interactive “Little Blue Truck’s Halloween” board book with liftable flaps!

4. Celebrate Baby’s First Halloween and Thanksgiving

Even if your baby is too young to understand or remember, dressing them up in a cute costume or involving them in a holiday activity is worth it! There are so many creative ideas for cute baby Halloween costumes, even costumes the whole family can be a part of.

For Thanksgiving, your baby might be old enough to try some of the more simple foods, like turkey or plain mashed potatoes. If not, you can still make memories with your baby. Like getting them dressed up in a “My First Thanksgiving” onsie, or put together some themed crafts like making turkeys out of their hands prints!

Mom-Focused Wellness Bucket List

Fall is not just about activities for the baby; it’s about carving out time for yourself too. Especially if fall is one of your favorite seasons, make sure to make some time for yourself to enjoy autumn to the fullest! Here are some ideas on how you can prioritize yourself every now and then:

1. Schedule A Mom Break Outdoors

Even a 15-minute walk by yourself or a quiet coffee on the porch can feel refreshing. Fresh air and a change of scenery go a long way in boosting your mood.

2. Try a New Fall Recipe for Yourself

Try and find time to make a soup, chili, or nourishing fall meal that’s just for you. Cooking something comforting can be a form of therapy and self-care. You deserve nourishing meals that you enjoy, even if you’re the only one who’ll eat them!

3. Meet Up With a Friend

Fall is as good as any season to make some time for friendships, especially if you’ve just come out of the newborn trenches. Go grab brunch or lunch, or if you’re short on time a quick coffee date (all without baby!). It’s okay to take time to nurture your adult friendships. Never take them for granted!

4. One Big Self-Care Item

Treat yourself, mama! Plan one indulgent thing for yourself this fall, like a hair appointment, facial, or massage before the stress of the holidays. Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup. Make sure to take time prioritizing you!

5. Seasonal Small Self-Care Items

Not all acts of self-care need to be big. Incorporate cozy little moments throughout your day: sip tea in a comfy new sweater, wrap up in a cozy blanket, or enjoy a quiet five-minute meditation while your baby naps. These small rituals add up and can help you feel present this season and more present in motherhood.

Conclusion

Your first fall as a new mom may look very different than what you imagined, but it can still be magical! Creating a fall bucket list for new moms helps you slow down, savor the season, and make memories with your baby. Remember, it doesn’t have to be perfect or completed all at once — even checking off one or two items per week can bring joy and a sense of accomplishment.

Whether you’re sipping a seasonal drink, taking your baby on their first pumpkin patch adventure, or indulging in a little self-care, make this fall about cherishing moments, no matter how small.
